First week of rehearsal period.

The first week of our rehearsal period was pretty easy compared to subsequent weeks. During the first days of training we were learning small pieces of choreography which all linked to the theme of the show, which was “arrival and departure” and that was used as a base of our main choreography of the show.
We also did a short routine in groups where we had to choose one person who would create the routine and lead the group. I had 4 people in the group including myself and fortunately I was chosen as the choreographer. I was very happy because as a person who wants to be a choreographer in the future I need to practice a lot. So when we finished the piece, we performed it in front of the class and the teacher. I think we did a good job because as Lucy said we were thinking about the context and not just about creating a beautiful routine. Although everyone created something really interesting, we didn’t use these small pieces of work in the show.
Around the third day of training we started to create the beginning of the main choreography with music selected by Lucy . I was very inspired by the creating process and I really liked that Lucy gave us a chance to help her and add something from ourselves. Even though we practised a lot during those days, I still didn’t feel that I was improving. The next day we had quite a hard day in terms of having too many people in the same studio, which was very annoying for everyone, including Lucy because we had no space and it was very warm in there. That day we also had an urban lesson with Ed where we started to create a choreography for the show as well. In the past few weeks we did a lot of short fragments and now we had to put them together which was not easy to do. I enjoyed every second of this lesson because it was very interesting for me to do something new and exciting.
On the last day of first week I was working with second year of our course. As usual, we began to create another routine and then we realised that this piece will be super-fast and intensive. We were really struggling, however, at the end of the day it started to look much better and the dancing became much easier. After we learned new choreography Lucy gave us a task to create another small choreography, but this time I was doing it in the duet with Marie which I was pleased with. It was very comfortable and easy to dance with her. Most of this piece was created by me although Marie had very interesting and creative ideas as well. When we showed what we had done to Lucy she told us that we would perform it during the show as a separate duet. I was very excited and fascinated, but at the same time scared and nervous because it’s a great responsibly.
