Third week of Rehearsal period (term 2)

Third week passed but we still have a lot to do. This week was the busiest week of Rehearsal period. We did a lot of things because the show is next week and all choreography’s have to be done by next Monday.

So on the first lesson with Emmeline we went through our choreography about two times just to see what we should clarify and what do we need to work on. So we find out that not everyone know their queues so we clarified all transitions from one piece to another and figured out when and where from we need to go on stage.

After we rehearsed choreography about 10 times, so we definitely know what we are doing, we moved on and started doing new routine to new music. It was very exciting because it was just our group (1 year) and new music was beautiful. Firstly Emmeline explained to us her idea about what she want to do and than she did our positioning. Afterwards she told us to make 5 gestures about pulling and pushing but individually. Then we went to our new places again and Emmeline asked us to do our gestured to music and just keep doing it all over again. It was quite confusing but after few minutes she stopped us and said to me to stop first, Shavonte – second, Gabrielle – third and etc. Eventually we end up in a square shape, doing our own gestures and stopping one by one. After a while we did small transitions and figured out how to go from the stage to give a space for a second year students.

At the end of the day Frankie and I spoke with Emmeline about our duet. Emmeline invited us to come on Friday and create a duet together with Frankie. I was very pleased about it because I didn’t dance that much as I did last term, perhaps it happened because we didn’t have much time to create long choreography and Emmeline had to put everyone in and she couldn’t have many duets and solos or it was my mistake because I didn’t show my interest and strong desire this time.

On Friday morning Frankie and I came to the college to create the duet. I was so excited when Emmeline told us to make connection choreography. I can explain why I was so excited but nervous at the same time. First of all we have never done connection before and I don’t really know how to work with someone close and how to connect with someone’s body. Secondly we had to create something we don’t really know about and it also will go to our assessment grade so we had to work on it very well but we didn’t have much time because it was our last week and the show is next week. But in the end it turned out very well because Emmeline helped us with creating lifting and some transitions from one move to another.

Our last day of this week was with Jasmine and all we did was drilling choreography and also had a small dressing rehearsal. I can say that I really enjoyed dancing Jasmine’s choreography because it has clear story behind and I really like her style as well.
