My dance performance took place on 16th and 17th of March 2016. Jasmine's stimulus of the piece was "Being blind", it consisted of contemporary, approximate length of the pieces was about 5 minutes.

In this evaluation of performance rehearsal I am going to talk about visual and aural settings of the piece and my opinion about it, my strengths, weaknesses and things I overcome/noticed or reflect afterwards.

Firstly, I would like to talk about my strengths and weaknesses relating to my positioning on stage. In my opinion I did fairly well but I still have to improve my performing skills and etc.

Strengths:

  1. Contemporary technique

  2. Musicality

  3. I am hardworking person

  4. Enthusiastic

  5. Good team worker

  6. Good performing skills such as: engaging with audience, behavior behind the stage and attentiveness and concentration during the performance.

  7. Remembering repertoire

Weaknesses:

  1. Extraordinary nervousness before going on stage

  2. Rushing while performing which leads to unfinished movements, although this time I did much better than last show.

  3. Sometimes I get distracted by others which is rude in relation to the teacher and also bad for myself because I can’t get all my attention to work process and I can’t get all information which I should get.

How the performing days did went for me and for my colleges?

Well I would say that the last show was more exciting for me. Perhaps it was because I had not the best time in my life and it was hard for me to concentrate, but it still went well and I’m pleased that I did my best to make this performance great. Rehearsal period was very fun and maybe even too much fun. Although this Rehearsal period was much shorter than previous one we did a lot and hard job. As I mentioned before we had 5 minutes of choreography and we performed it very well.

Things I overcome/noticed afterwards.

Things I noticed I need to start doing from now on:

  1. I have to work one thousand times harder than I worked.

  2. I have to concentrate on myself and my targets.

  3. I need to overcome my laziness.

  4. I have to start interesting in history of dance.

  5. I need to stop messing around with colleagues because this is not why I’m going to college.

  6. I have to be more enthusiastic.

Things I overcome during the performance and rehearsal period:

  1. Loathing to myself.

And it’s probably just one but it keeps a lot in it. First of all I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror because I didn’t feel fit enough for the dancer. Secondly I really didn’t like how I danced, that I don’t have my own style and I felt really uncomfortable because I thought that I’m not interesting as a dancer at all. Thirdly was my behavior. I have never behaved like that before. I was speaking with my colleagues a lot and laughed and it was very rude in relation to Jasmine. I also thought that I did better than everyone else and I was totally wrong.

Creative tasks and interesting moments.

In my opinion Emmeline and Jasmine tried their best to make creating process interesting and exciting and I think they succeeded.

Jasmine had a task for us to do which I mentioned in my blog before. We had to create connection within the group of five people and link it to our theme of the work. We also had fun warm up because Jasmine have very good energetic and we usually was smiling while doing an exercise which was great because I felt burst of energy straight away not in the middle of the lesson.

Music decisions and my opinion about it.

In Jasmine’s choreography we had one song called Wash by Bon Iver. This song perfectly matched with our choreography and the song was very peaceful so it made me tranquil on the stage.

Lighting decisions and my opinion about it.

In Jasmine’s piece we had very good lighting. Actually no one went out from stage during the performance and the audience had a chance to look at everyone and see all the details which was very good. At the beginning there was no lights and when were on the stage on our positions the lights turned on. Most of the time light was on the sides and just at the end the light went exactly above us in a circle.

I would probably change lighting at the beginning of the piece. Perhaps the lights could be just on people who first started choreography and then on the others, just to make it more enigmatic and to focus on dancers who are dancing at that moment.
